Tonolec at Jimmy Hornet, Zhongshan China
How to Piss off a Band in Three Easy Steps
Step 1. Weeks prior we were provided with a long list of stage requirements and a stage plan for Tonolec. Ok…it’s great to be forewarned, however, when the band arrived it became apparent that the information was out of date. We scrapped what wasn’t needed and scratched around for what was.
Step 2. Admittedly, we at Jimmy Hornet (China) would LOVE to have a Green Room, but instead, we clear a space in the storeroom, give it a sweep and add a few chairs. Singer Charo was none too impressed. Oops!
Step 3. Anthea Palmer (Jimmy Hornet founder) realized the band was intending to play two “techno” sets. Interesting….when we’re essentially an acoustic venue. Anthea tried to talk them into losing the technology, but Diego wasn’t having it.

What happened next was incredible. The power supply for the laptop broke. It was an aged Apple Mac and we couldn’t find a replacement. The band even sent a friend off to search for one….to no avail. And so it was that Tonolec played two sets of acoustic music.
Although we got off to a shaky start, and the Diego did suggest that Anthea was a witch and had cast a spell on the tech, everyone settled in, we all became fast friends and enjoyed a wonderful evening of music and Tapas.
